Polineuropatia Sensitivo-Motora Axonal Induzida por Dissulfiram: Caso Clínico
Axonal Sensorimotor Polyneuropathy Induced by Disulfiram: Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
We describe the case of a 49-year-old man, treated with disulfiram 500 mg/day and with simultaneous alcohol intake, who, after approximately one month of cumulative exposure to the drug, developed progressive tetraparesis, preventing him from walking independently. Neurological examination revealed tetraparesis with greater severity in the lower limbs, abolished Achilles reflexes, and stocking and glove hypoesthesia. Electroneuromyography identified axonal sensory-motor polyneuropathy with a distal-proximal gradient and very severe severity in the distal segments of the lower limbs. Progressive clinical and electrophysiological improvement was observed after discontinuation of disulfiram and implementation of a rehabilitation program. The authors seek to draw attention to a neurological complication associated with a drug that is relatively common in national clinical practice.
