Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Access and frequent use of information through technology is available to all, even the youngest. The way children and adolescents use new media is very different from previous generations and a constantly changing reality whose scope and consequences we do not yet fully understand.
METHODOLOGY: This study aims to understand how children and young people are coping with this reality, characterizing the use of new technologies from 0 to 18 years of age. To that end, 412 parents answered a questionnaire that characterizes the habits of use and access of the new technologies of their children.
RESULTS: The results show that 90% of children from 0 to 18 years old use new technologies and that 69% have a daily use and/or duration of more than 1 hour and 30 minutes. The tablet is the most used technology with 82% of users, followed by the smartphone with 68%, the PC with 52% and the console with 37%. 86% use the internet and, of these, only 51% with parental control.
CONCLUSION: Internet use is made for watching videos, playing games, listening to music, doing research and teaching activities.
